Remote work has brought about a new dynamic regarding how we work. The changes the pandemic has brought forth have been profound and seem long-lasting. Remote work has shown to be challenging for cybersecurity professionals, putting companies at risk if they don't have the correct setup to keep sensitive information secure and safe.
What the Numbers Say
As of 2021, over 80% of cybersecurity and business leaders surveyed said that remote work had exposed their companies more at risk of hackers. The three most significant risk factors for any business transitioning from on-site to remote work were a lack of visibility into remote employee home networks, expanding the software supply chain, and migrating to the cloud.
Tenable's recent research found that 70% of remote employees used their devices to access their work. While 71% of cybersecurity leaders feel they lack the resources to ensure all employees' home networks are secure, 67% of remote employees are vulnerable to cyberattacks.
And Now, A Word from the Experts
Tenable's survey of cybersecurity experts and business leaders found that 2/3 of all cybersecurity leaders are said to be beefing up their networks in the next two years. At the same time, another 75% aim to maintain their cloud security as a top priority.
Amit Yoran, CEO of Tenable, states, "this study reveals two paths forward — one riddled with unmanaged risk and unrelenting cyberattacks and another that securely accelerates business productivity and operations. CISOs and CEOs have the opportunity and responsibility to securely harness the power of technology and manage cyber risk for the new world of work."
Yoran emphasized that remote and hybrid work and the risks involved are here to stay. Business leaders working with cybersecurity experts should embrace this change and focus on securing their networks and harnessing the power of technology.
